Company Walks the Walks By Giving BackToeSox supports Komen’s Breast Cancer 3 Day for a Cure

Carlsbad, CA. – December 6, 2010 – The economy may prompt less consumer spending, but California-based company ToeSox experiences increased sales by actualizing its mission ‘to promote healthy feet while supporting community and planet’.  In October, ToeSox announced a new line of toe socks were coming soon called ULTRA Sport. The new socks are made with Cocona® Natural Technology™ that utilizes activated carbon from coconut shells to provide evaporative cooling, enhanced dryness and odor control. This superior moisture wicking component pairs well with high endurance activities like running, hiking, and long distance walking. During R&D for the ULTRA Sport line, ToeSox President Joe Patterson was searching for the right charitable match for the company’s “Sox for a Cause” program where sales of certain socks give back with every purchase.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day for the Cure events supply a great cause and thousands of feet, and ToeSox wanted to be part of the movement. The company designed a brindle pink color for the ULTRA Sport line and replaced the embroidered ‘x’ in the ToeSox logo with an embroidered pink ribbon. While the ULTRA Sport line was not launched until November 2010, ToeSox kicked off their “Sox for a Cause” giving during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The company sent a social media call out to all San Diego 3 Day Walkers asking them to submit their “3 Day Story” for a chance to win a $500 scholarship donation to assist with their personal $2300 fundraising minimum in order to walk in the event. Dozens of submissions came in each sharing a heartfelt story of how he or she was connected to the cause. San Diego local, Melanie Sheridan, was selected to receive the $500 scholarship donation.
“Fundraising was difficult for me this year. In this economy, it's not easy asking friends and family to give money,” says Sheridan, “Without the scholarship from ToeSox I'm not sure I would have done the walk.”

Each walker who submitted received a free pair of the brindle pink ULTRA Sport toe socks. ToeSox donated an additional $500 to the company’s 3 Day Team. Team ToeSox is a small group of employees and friends who raised $2300 each, donned pink ULTRA Sport ToeSox and joined thousands for the 60-mile, 3-day journey that took place in San Diego November 19-21.
Patterson knew he wanted to support Komen as one of the breast cancer charities benefitting from the brindle pink ULTRA Sport. “Since the money goes to Komen in the end anyway, it seemed imperative to support the participants who work hard to raise the money and walk such a long distance for a great cause,” says Patterson.

Sales of the newly released ULTRA Sport look good. The more brindle pink color that sells, the more the company plans to give in scholarship donations to the 2011 Breast Cancer 3 Day for the Cure event and its walkers.
